Alternate History: The Man in the High Castle – Amazon

“The Man in the High Castle” is a perfect example for the question of “what if?” as it takes place in an alternate timeline where Nazi Germany and its allies won WWII. In 1962, the United States have been divided into the Greater Nazi Reich to the east and the Japanese Pacific States to the west. These territories are separated by a neutral zone.

The story, imagined by Philip K. Dick in 1962, follows a large cast of characters crossing paths despite living completely different lives as an American born SS Obergruppenführer in New York, a young woman from Japanese controlled San Francisco, a resistance fighter with Jewish origins, a Japanese trade minister, to name just a few. They are all connected through a strange film that appears to show a world where the Germans lost the war.

How would the world have evolved, had the Nazis won? Nobody knows for sure of course, but the story of “The Man in the Hight Castle” tells a believable version of such a world, where every character is confronted at one time or another with the question of how far they are willing to fight for what they believe in, in a totalitarian system that asks blind obedience and sacrifice and ruthlessly rips out dissent amongst its citizens.

“The Man in the High Castle” is available on Amazon Prime.
