Home for Christmas
In “Hjem til jul” or “Home for Christmas”, Johanne – not Johanna -, a nurse in her thirties, living in Oslo, has been single since her boyfriend broke up with her a few years ago. She has been over him for some time, but her family unfortunately is not. So, in order to shut them up about him, she tells them that she will bring her new boyfriend home for the family dinner on Christmas. Which is problematic, as she doesn’t have a new boyfriend.
What follows is Johanne’s search for someone she can take home as a boyfriend, with plenty of funny and romantic situations. If you are used to American romantic comedies, the Norwegian production will agreeably surprise you by its laidback style and dry humor. The show is rather short with 6 episodes of about 30 minutes and has the look of an Ikea commercial, but it will remind you that Christmas is still a long way off and we will all hopefully be freed by then, while still having someone to take home for Christmas.
Home for Christmas is available on Netflix.
