The Fall - Netflix
Stella Gibson is a superintendent of the English Metropolitan Police assigned to the Police Service of Northern Ireland to assess the progress of a murder investigation.
She soon makes the connections to other murders and realizes that they are hunting a serial killer. Meanwhile Paul Spector, a husband and father, is stalking a young woman, entering her home when she is absent, marking her as his next victim.
“The Fall” is much too slow moving to be an action show, there are no fights or explosions. But the series lives from the tense atmosphere, the calm and methodic way how both Stella Gibson and Paul Spector hunt their prey.
Gillian Anderson, known for her role as Dana Scully in “The X-Files”, plays Stella Gibson as a woman in control, unapologetic about her femininity or sexuality and an excellent investigator. In contrast to other, similar shows, she never seems fascinated by the killer and on the contrary is only interested in bringing him to justice without allowing him to become the center of attention.
Paul Spector, played by Jaimie Dornan before the “Grey” Films, is a man walking a thin line between the person he pretends to be and the monster he really is, slowly losing control over his life as the police closes in.
