Carrie Mathieson is an officer of the CIA, assigned to the Counterterrorism Center in Virginia. When a US Marine Sergeant, Nicholas Brody, is rescued from a terrorist compound in Iraq, she suspects that he has been turned against the US.
While Brody is welcomed back to the US as a hero, he struggles at home, where his wife and children have moved on with their lives and are unprepared for a man struggling with PTSD.
Mathieson, herself struggling with bipolar disorder, becomes obsessed with proving that Brody is a double agent, manipulated by terrorists. While investigating him, she gets closer than she should, leading her boss, Saul Berenson, to question her erratic, risk-taking behavior.
Claire Danes is brilliant as Carrie Mathieson, a woman walking a fine line between sanity and mental illness. Craving the insights her manic phases give her, she stops taking her medication, accelerating her plunge into madness, while Nicholas Brody is mentally broken, his loyalties uncertain.
Homeland first aired in 2011, the last episode of the eighth and final season will air on 26th April on Showtime.
