1981. The US and the USSR are at the height of the cold war. Ronald Reagan has just been sworn in as the 40th American president.
Elizabeth and Philip Jennings are married with two kids. Working together at their travel agency, they live in a nice house in the suburbs of Washington D.C.. But what looks like the American dream is really a front for a couple of soviet agents that were infiltrated by the KGB fifteen years ago as spies. When Stan Beeman, an FBI agent, moves in next door with his family, the stakes are suddenly much higher.
Apart from the missions they are assigned, where both are completely ruthless in the pursuit of their target, the series portrays two people who live under constant pressure and have only their partner to rely on, as the rest of the world, their children included, are clueless about their double life, living a part of history that marked a whole generation, as the United States and the Soviet Union fought a war in the shadows, before Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin wall.
