Mad Men – Netflix
Everything was better in the olden days. Take February for example. When we still went to work and could go to the restaurant or the movies. But if that seems too recent, you can time travel to the real good old times. All you need is an internet connection….
1960. The golden age of baby boomers. America’s economy is thriving.
Don Draper is a creative director at “Sterling Cooper” an advertising agency on Madison Avenue in New York. As a white, American male from the upper middle class he lives a privileged life. Commuting from the suburbs, where his bored wife stays with the kids during the weeks, he passes his days at work drinking, pitching ideas and seeing other women. All the while hiding a murky past that could endanger everything he has worked for.
The characters of Mad Men form a microcosm that reflects the inequalities and the changes in American society taking place during the decade to 1970. The advertising agency becomes a symbol for the unrestrained consumerism that started during that period and hasn’t abated since.
The changing fashions in clothes, hairstyles and interior design accompany the changes in the way the people interact in the workplace as corporate America evolves. Don Drapers life too changes more than once. Only he stays the same.
Mad Men is available on Netflix with seven seasons.
