1928. One of the first telephone companies opens in Spain.
Alba, a young woman being blackmailed by a corrupt policeman, steals the identity of Lidia Aguilar to get a job as a cable girl at the new company. Here, she runs into Francisco Gomez, once the love of her life who came to Madrid with her ten years ago, before they got separated by circumstances.
Carlota Rodriguez de Senillosa is the daughter of a rich, very strict and conservative General. She rebels against him by taking the low paid job as a cable girl.
Angeles is married and was only supposed to work until her husband would earn enough to make a living for the both of them, but now she doesn’t want to give up a job that gives her a feeling of accomplishment.
Marga is a naïve young country girl, coming to Madrid to please her grandmother who insists she needs to see a bit of the world before settling down.
The series follows the stories of these four women and their friendship against the backdrop of societal changes brought on by the introduction of the telephone, bringing to mind how the internet reshaped our society almost a hundred years later.
