Meet Frank Gallagher, drunk, drug addict and father to 6 kids. Always on the take, looking out for his best interest. To his eldest, Fiona, falls the responsibility of looking after her siblings, putting her own life on hold. Each of the children have their problems to deal with, emotionally as well as financially, money being always tight. In the first season, Fiona meets Steve, who gives her expensive gifts but who turns out not to be at all who he seems.
The series is a blend of comedy and drama, succeeding in showing the life of a dysfunctional family without falling into bleakness. The actors are excellent, portraying characters messed up by their parent’s ineptitude and well aware of it, while greedily grasping for anything that promises a better life.
Based on a British series, the American version started broadcasting in 2011 and is still on air, the eleventh and final season is to premiere in mid-2020.
