As quarantine entered its third week it becomes obvious that this is, indeed, a marathon, not a sprint. For the first time in history, saving mankind means staying home and watching TV. In order not to screw this up, we can rely on TV shows particularly suitable for a binge marathon.
Sam and Dean Winchester hunt monsters. They travel the USA in Dean’s black 1967 Chevrolet Impala always on the lookout for things that go bump in the dark. In between monsters of the week, they bicker and fight, then make peace again, as brothers do. During the first season they look for their father who disappeared, in later seasons they find out that they are meant to prevent the apocalypse.
The snarky tone as well as the horror elements and dark themes of evil versus good, the tongue-in-cheek humor playing with the audience’s perceptions made the series a success.
The show started in 2005 and was initially planned to last for 5 seasons. Today, the show is still on air, the 15th and last season has been airing since October 2019.
Amazon has the 267 episodes from 13 seasons, enough for even a true binger to last for a few weeks. If you pace yourself and only watch 4 episodes per day, you should be finished by mid-May. By then the apocalypse will hopefully be stopped.
Supernatural is available on Amazon, with 13 seasons.
