Monday sat atop the hill and gazed across the valley.

It had been but a few hours since the announcement.

Monday was alone, tired and confused.

The sky was clear. The sun was out. In any other time, in a million other ‘right nows’ this was a picture perfect day.

The radio had been blaring from midnight till sunrise. Warning after warning, bulletin followed bulletin.

Monday was to be separated from the weekend, as was standard operating procedure. He was to halt mixing with Tuesday too.

The weekend handover was always hard enough without adding in this extra layer of solitude.

Monday squinted as he looked at the far side of the valley. Cars were peeping, people were shouting. Smoke rose in plumes. This looked like no other

Monday, felt like no other Monday, but was perhaps the new state of play.
