After having been placed under yellow storm alert, the Moselle department was hit by a powerful weather phenomenon, which caused floods in Metz and significant damages in other parts of the region.

Pictures released by local fire brigades depict several buildings that were damaged over the course of the weekend. In Saint-Avold, a tree fell into a building, which was already under construction prior to the storm. Furthermore, the storm ripped roof tiles from several houses in the wider region.

Firefighters received more than 1,000 distress calls during the first four hours that followed the storm. Crisis cells were quickly activated to help assist those in need.

“At the peak of the storm, more than 200 firefighters were mobilised to help secure different areas across the region”, an official statement from the regional brigade conveys.

Since the end of the storms, clearing operations have been underway and relocation solutions are being analysed.
