GRAND DUKE - Grand Duke Henri says that the newspaper story of a mistreated staff member does not paint the full picture. Speaking to journalists during his State visit to Latvia, the Grand Duke said that things did not go the way they were being portrayed by the weekly newspaper Lëtzebuerger Land, but stopped short of giving his own account.
The weekly published a report on staff mistreatment, highlighting disagreements in the management of the House. Particularly Grand Duchess Maria Teresa came under public scrutiny in late 2022.

TRAIN DISRUPTION – There will be no trains between Ettelbruck-Kautenbach and Kautenbach-Wiltz today. National railway company CFL communicated on Tuesday afternoon that bad weather has led to unstable rock walls along the tracks. It is unclear how long the interruption will last.

US DRONE - The United States and Russia have given different accounts after an American surveillance drone plunged into the Black Sea, following an encounter with Russian fighter jets. Officials say it was flying over international airspace when it was intercepted and had fuel dumped on it by one of two Russian jets.

RUSSIA SYRIA - Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with Syria’s leader Bashar al-Assad in Moscow today. Russia has been one of Syria’s few allies during its years of war and political isolation.

DUTCH ELECTIONS - Elections to 12 provincial parliaments in the Netherlands looks set to shake up the country’s political landscape. The vote is expected to highlight discontent with Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s centre-right coalition government. The campaign was dominated by issues such as the scarcity of public transport in remote villages to the global themes of migration and climate change.

FRANCE RETIREMENT - In France, there are renewed protests against the pension reform today, which will once again cause serious disturbances in public transport. Today, the relevant commission of the Parliament is also meeting to find a compromise. The aim of increasing the retirement age from 62-64 years should be given the green light tomorrow. The government argues that otherwise, the pension system would be unsustainable in the long term.

AI GPT-4 - Creators of the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT have unveiled its latest version, GPT-4. It can respond to words as well as images, such as suggesting recipe ideas from a picture of ingredients, as well as writing captions and descriptions. Staying with football, FIFA has announced that the world cup in 2026 will start with 12 groups of four teams in a change from the original planned format of 16 groups of three. The next World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be the first to feature 48 teams, a sharp increase from the 32 sides at last year’s tournament in Qatar.
