Starting with Luxembourg

  • There was no Covid-related news for the Grand Duchy today. The next daily update is expected Monday at 5pm.

And abroad

  • Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said Sunday that a nationwide lockdown would begin Monday for those not vaccinated against Covid-19 or recently recovered. The lockdown means people over 12 will not be allowed to leave the house except for reasons such as buying essential supplies, exercise or seeking medical care.

  • Germany is preparing a return to working from home under draft legislation seen by AFP on Sunday. Under the draft plan, employers in Germany would be forced to offer the option to work from home in the absence of a “compelling business reason” to come to the office. It will be voted on next week.
  • According to the recent report of ILO (International Labour Organization) and UNICEF, Covid-19 has pushed millions of children into child labour in Bangladesh. Schools were closed for more than a year, and family income was often reduced significantly, exposing school-going children to risks of child labour.
  • Australia could begin administering vaccine shots for children under the age of 12 as of next year, health minister Greg Hunt said, adding however that medical regulators are still reviewing safety data.
  • Three patients died in a fire that broke out early Sunday on a coronavirus ward in a hospital in southwest Bulgaria, the rescue services said. The three male patients, aged 66, 70 and 81, were all ill with Covid-19 and died on the fourth floor of a hospital in the city of Sliven. “The most likely cause of the fire was a lit cigarette of one of the patients,” the Bulgarian health ministry said in a statement.
  • Fifteen people in the Netherlands have been arrested after protests broke out in response to the newly-imposed Covid-19 lockdown. Under the new three-week lockdown, bars, restaurants and supermarkets are required to close at 8pm and stores selling non-essential items must shut at 6pm.
