One reason for this would be that most countries in Europe have lifted all protective measures.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) expects a new coronavirus wave to hit Europe in summer. The Organisation warns that the virus will spread rapidly in the summer because almost all countries have lifted protective measures.

The virus will not disappear just because countries stop monitoring it, the head of the WHO stressed.

The number of infections across Europe has tripled over the past weeks. Most new cases are recorded in Austria, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, and Portugal, but Luxembourg is also mentioned.

Every day, some 500 people die with or from Covid-19 in Europe. This is similar to last summer but not comparable to winter, when between 4,000 and 5,000 people died every day.
