WW1 SHELLS FOUND - Excavation work in nearby Longwy has led to an unexpected discovery - 168 shells dating back to the First World War were found. According to reports in Lorraine media, the shells were still in their original cases when they were unearthed. Upon the discovery, the city’s services immediately contacted the regional de-mining service who conducted a controlled, underground explosion of the shells. Each warhead was calibrated for cannons and consisted of an explosive and a detonator.

SKYPARK AIRPORT - The “Skypark Business Center” is taking shape a few months before its opening at Findel Airport. With an opening slated for the first half of 2024, the complex will feature a business centre, restaurants, and a hotel. According to Minister for Mobility François Bausch, the airport will be served by a tram line in the same year as the Skypark opens.

TRAIN DELAYS - CFL is reporting disturbances on the Luxembourg-Rodange train line this morning. Until 9 o’clock a number of trains will be cancelled and there will be delays. This is due to a technical problem with installations between Bieles-Zolver. Further information is available on cfl.lu

PRINCE CHARLES BIRTHDAY - The Grand Ducal court has issued new photos of Prince Charles, who celebrates his third birthday today. The little Luxembourg prince was born on May 10, 2020 at the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte Maternity Hospital. Prince Charles is the first child of the Hereditary Grand Ducal couple and second in line to the throne.

TRUMP VERDICT - Lawyers for Donald Trump say they are planning to appeal against his conviction for sexual assault and defamation in a civil case in New York. E Jean Carroll accused the former president of raping her in a department store in the 1990s. The court cleared him of that but found him liable for a number of other accusations and awarded damages of nearly 5 million dollars. A major question now will be how the ex-president’s supporters react.

DJERBA SHOOTING - Two visitors and two security guards have been killed in a gun attack near Africa’s oldest synagogue on the Tunisian holiday island of Djerba. The attack took place during an annual pilgrimage to the island, which attracts Jewish visitors from Europe and Israel. The attacker allegedly opened fire on visitors and security forces near the synagogue before being killed himself. His motive was not clear. The synagogue was previously targeted in a suicide truck bombing that killed 21 in 2002.

EUROVISION SEMI-FINAL - Eurovision held the first of two semi-finals in Liverpool last night. 15 countries were competing for places in Saturday’s final. Favourites Sweden made it through, meaning Loreen could still become the first female to win the contest twice. Finland’s Cha Cha Cha was particularly popular with the crowd in the arena but Ireland has missed out on the final once again. The second semi-final is set for Thursday night before the final on Saturday.

FOOTBALL - The Champions League semi finals kicked off yesterday. Real Madrid drew 1-1 with Manchester City. AC Milan will play against Inter Milan tonight.

CYCLING - The Frenchman Aurélien Paret-Peintre has won the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia, ahead of the Norwegian Andreas Leknessund. The best Luxembourger there is Bob Jungels., who came in 67th place. Today’s stage will take the cyclists 171 kilometers from Atripalda to Salerno.

JUDO - Nils Stump has won Switzerland’s first ever world judo title, taking gold in the men’s under-73kg category in Doha. Stump defeated former European champion Manuel Lombardo of Italy in the final, having delivered an ippon to beat Japanese star Soichi Hashimoto earlier in the day.

Following a rainy day yesterday, we can expect more of the same today. It’s going to be a mostly cloudy day with some scattered showers throughout, mainly in the afternoon. Morning temperatures of 7-9°C will rise to highs of 16°C later in the day.
