The French government will require manufacturers to provide replacement vehicles to drivers affected by the ongoing Takata airbag recall, the Ministry of Transport announced Tuesday.
Under the new measures, manufacturers must offer “mobility solutions” – such as courtesy cars – to customers whose vehicles remain undrivable for over 15 days during repairs. The policy affects approximately 1.7 million French-registered vehicles currently under “stop drive” orders due to the potentially dangerous airbags.
Authorities have established strict repair timelines, mandating fixes be completed within an average of 15 days after appointment scheduling. Manufacturers failing to meet these deadlines will face significant financial penalties, according to the ministry.
