The incident took place at the end of August. After the driver was stopped at 163 km/h in an 80 zone, his license was revoked for six months. The Moselle prefecture underlined that according to the road traffic act, a suspension cannot exceed six months, regardless of the speed infringement.

However, the ban can be extended if people are injured due to the excessive speed, if the driver is drunk or intoxicated, or if the driver refuses to get tested by the authorities.

During the month of August, a total of 322 driving bans were awarded in the Moselle region. Excessive speeding is the second leading cause with 108 suspensions, topped only by intoxication with 126 cases. Alcohol consumption comes in third with 88 out of the 322 cases.
