FRIEDEN INTERVIEW – Prime Minister Luc Frieden says his government remains on track after two years in power, after defending its record on housing and poverty in a weekend radio interview on RTL. Frieden left open the possibility of seeking re-election as CSV president but firmly denied speculation about a cabinet reshuffle, calling coalition relations very good.
AMAZON JOBS – Amazon begins formal consultations with employee representatives today over restructuring plans that could see up to 470 job losses in Luxembourg, 10% of its local workforce. The OGBL union is calling it a potential tsunami for the country, part of a global cost-cutting drive affecting 14,000 positions worldwide.
WORLD AIDS DAY – Today marks World AIDS Day. In Luxembourg, around 1,500 people live with HIV, with 43 new cases reported last year. The Red Cross warns an estimated 60 people may be unknowingly infected, emphasising the importance of regular testing.
ST NICHOLAS – St Nicholas visited several towns on Sunday, including Dudelange and Luxembourg City. In Dudelange, large crowds gathered as the parade passed through the town and 700 sweet bags were distributed to children.
World
UKRAINE WAR – President Trump says there's a good chance of a deal to end the war in Ukraine after what both sides called productive talks in Florida yesterday. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Ukrainian officials, while Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to travel to Moscow for follow-up discussions with President Putin on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is set to host Volodymr Zelensky for talks in Paris today and NATO foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The flurry of diplomacy comes as the war shows no sign of easing. Ahead of the Florida talks, Russia's forces targeted Ukraine's capital and the region for two nights in a row and a drone attack in the outskirts of Kyiv killed one person and wounded 11 late on Saturday.
POPE IN LEBANON – The pope is continuing his official visit to Lebanon today, meeting bishops, priests and workers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa.
ASIA FLOODS – Monsoon floods and landslides across Southeast Asia have killed over 900 people. Indonesian and Thai authorities report 600 dead with hundreds missing, while Sri Lanka's toll from Cyclone Ditwah has reached 334, its worst natural disaster in two decades.

BASKETBALL – Luxembourg's men's national basketball team remains unbeaten in EM pre-qualification, defeating Azerbaijan 95:90 in their second match of the campaign.
FORMULA 1 – Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen has won the Qatar Grand Prix, closing to within 12 points of leader Lando Norris. The title fight now heads to Abu Dhabi for the finale next Sunday.
FOOTBALL – Some international football results: Hamburg won 2-1 against Stuttgart. Frankfurt and Wolfsburg drew 1-1. Freiburg beat Mainz 4-0. West Ham lost 0-2 to Liverpool. Chelsea and Arsenal drew 1-1. Lyon beat Nantes 3-0. Girona and Real Madrid drew 1-1. And Napoli won 1-0 against AS Roma.
