Luxembourg 

CITY SHOOTING – A man has been injured in a shooting on Avenue Monterey. When officers arrived on the scene just before 8pm on Sunday, they found a man with injuries to his back and brought him to hospital. Initial reports say the shots were heard in the park around Villa Vauban. Both suspects were arrested, alongside a third individual, and were brought before a judge on Monday morning.

PALESTINE RECOGNITION – Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel have announced to the parliamentary commission that Luxembourg intends to recognise Palestine as a state this September. However, the final decision is expected to be made at the UN General Assembly in New York, which begins on 23 September. Other countries, including France, the UK, Canada and Belgium, have already announced that they will recognise Palestine.

CORONATION GUESTLIST – Preparations for the festivities surrounding Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume's coronation next month are well underway. The court has how also released details of the coronation's guest list, which will include President Macron and his wife Brigitte, the German President Frank Walter Steinmeier, as well as the Belgian and Dutch royal family.

FOOD RECALL – Frozen peas and baby carrots sold under the brand name ‘Notre Jardin’ are being recalled due to the ‘possible presence of foreign bodies such as wood and glass’. Health authorities have issued an orange alert regarding the product, advising consumers not to eat it under any circumstances.

World

GAZA WAR – Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has said Gaza is "on fire" this morning, warning his country "will not relent" after massive strikes on Gaza City. Meanwhile US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that Hamas has only days to accept a ceasefire deal. Rubio met Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday, giving his backing to the Israeli Prime Minister's new offensive in Gaza City and its stated goal of eradicating Hamas.

UKRAINE WAR – Russian strikes have killed two people and wounded at least nine others in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, as Moscow presses forward with its over three-year war despite Western condemnation. The Cluster Munition Coalition has said in its annual report  that cluster munitions have killed or injured more than 1,200 civilians in Ukraine since Russia's invasion began, decrying "troubling setbacks" in global efforts to eradicate the weapons. Cluster munitions pose a lasting threat since many fail to explode on impact, effectively acting as landmines that can explode years later.

TRUMP UK – President Donald Trump will get the red carpet treatment this week on an unprecedented second UK state visit. From a flyby and carriage ride with King Charles to a grand state banquet at Windsor Castle, Britain is pulling out all the stops. Talks between Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to centre on trade, tariffs and the Ukraine war. Trump and Starmer are also expected to sign deals on tech worth at least $10 billion.

SPAIN ISRAEL – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for Israel to be barred from international sport over the Gaza war, as it emerged his government had also cancelled an $825 million military contract with the country. Sanchez expressed "deep admiration" for thousands of protesters who forced the halt of the final stage of the Vuelta a Espana, one of the world's biggest cycling races, in Spain on Sunday.

Sport

FOOTBALL – Starting with football and the new season of the Champions League begins today. Among tonight’s matches, Dortmund are playing Juventus, Athletic against Arsenal, Real Madrid vs Marseille and Tottenham take on Villareal.   
ATHLETICS  – And in athletics, Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis has set yet another world pole vault record, with a new mark of 6metres30 as he defended his world title with ease and then went higher than any vaulter in history.

Today will largely be cloudy and overcast, with the potential for light rain showers lingering throughout the day. Expect breezy conditions, with wind gusts of up to 50 km/h. The morning starts off at 10-12°C, rising to highs of around 16°C by the afternoon.
