A 60-year-old man who went swimming in the Moselle near the Stadbriedemes-Palzem lock has been missing since 8pm on Friday, with ongoing search efforts by German and Luxembourgish authorities so far unsuccessful.

Update: the missing 60-year-old man's body was found near the German town of Palzem, on Sunday morning.

Previous efforts

Initial search efforts by the Saarburg police and the Trier water police on one side of the river, alongside Luxembourgish emergency teams on the other, were unsuccessful, the German police reported.

With the assistance of two boats from Luxembourg and a helicopter, authorities were able to expand the search area on Friday night. However, as nothing had been found by late evening, Luxembourg’s diving team halted their search around 3:10am on Saturday morning, shortly followed by the other teams.

Search efforts resumed on Saturday from both sides of the river, but so far, according to the Trier police, they have not yielded any results.
