Luxembourg's rescue teams had been involved in a widespread search action along the Moselle river since Friday, after a swimmer went missing.

According to German media, the 60-year-old man's body was discovered in the river on Sunday morning near the German town of Palzem. The man was quickly identified as the missing swimmer.

Two Luxembourgish boats and a helicopter were dispatched to expand the search area on Friday evening. But the search proved fruitless and Luxembourgish divers paused their search at around 3am on Saturday morning, followed shortly after by the other search teams.

The search then continued later on Saturday, again without success, according to Trier police, until a pedestrian located the swimmer's body on Sunday.
