A tragic fire in the early hours of Sunday morning claimed the life of a man in Moyeuvre-Petite, Moselle, while his young son managed to escape through a window.

The incident occurred around 7am in a three-story building in the small town, located 20 minutes from Thionville and 30 minutes from the Luxembourg border.

According to Le Républicain Lorrain, neighbours reported that the son, who is about ten years old, escaped the blaze by climbing through a window. Firefighters evacuated all residents of the building as they worked to control the fire.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy and are working to confirm the identity of the deceased man.

By midday, most residents were allowed to return to their homes, except for one whose door had been forcibly opened by firefighters. That individual was taken in by relatives.
