New details have emerged regarding the tragic accident that claimed the life of a 59-year-old man from southern Luxembourg Province in Belgium over the weekend on the E25 in Mabompré (Houffalize).

Anne-Sophie Guilmot, press officer at the Luxembourg Province's Public Prosecutor's Office, shared updates with the L'Avenir newspaper, stating: "An investigation is underway with the ambulance crews to understand exactly what happened on Sunday evening."

Initial reports indicate that the man, who was being transported by ambulance, was en route to a psychiatric centre for observation and treatment. Described as calm and cooperative, he had been conversing with a nurse seated opposite him while the driver operated the vehicle.

Although the patient was secured with a protective belt, he was not handcuffed, as he posed no risk. However, at one point, he unexpectedly removed the belt, opened the ambulance door, and exited the moving vehicle.

The paramedic attempted everything possible to prevent this tragic event but was unable to stop him. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the precise cause of death.

Additionally, investigators are examining why ambulances transporting patients under observation are not locked, allowing doors to be opened from the inside.
