LOST PARCELS - The national Regulatory Institute issued a statement on Monday in response to increasing numbers of social media adverts claiming to sell lost or undelivered parcels. The posts, which usually offer bundles of lost parcels for low prices, are considered to be fraudulent by the I.L.R. The I.L.R. wrote that any package that could not be delivered to the intended recipient, nor returned to the sender, must be brought to the Regulatory Institute, and they alone should decide what happens to the package. They also added it had contacted a company which recently organised a sale of lost parcels, which confirmed it had not sold any coming from Luxembourg.

NEW CYCLE PATH - A new 815-metre-long cycle path opened between Cents station and Hamm on Monday, in honour of World Bicycle Day. The new section of the PC27 cycle path runs alongside the railway tracks towards the Robert Schaffner roundabout, establishing a connection between Cents train station and Scheedhaff. Once all sections are completed, the PC27 will make it possible to link Luxembourg City to Stadtbredimus, or even the Moselle valley.

ROYAL ROSE - A special rose was planted at Munsbach Castle on Monday afternoon in honour of the hereditary Grand Ducal couple's second son. The white rose was especially cultivated for little Prince François, born to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie in 2023. Luxembourg's Association of Friends of the Rose often breeds new varieties of rose for members of the royal family.

ISRAEL/GAZA CONFLICT - Israel on Tuesday mourned four captives reported dead in Gaza by the army, amid growing doubts and international pressure over a plan for a ceasefire and hostage release deal outlined by US President Joe Biden. In the besieged Palestinian territory, Israeli strikes continued early Tuesday, particularly in Bureij in central Gaza where local hospital sources reported several deaths. In northern Israel, authorities were battling intense forest fires that broke out shortly after rocket and drone strikes from neighbouring Lebanon, forcing the partial evacuation of one town.

U.K. ELECTION - In a significant reversal, Nigel Farage has announced his candidacy for the upcoming UK general election. His decision, coming just two weeks after ruling out his participation, is a major U-turn that threatens to split the right-wing vote and further imperil the beleaguered ruling Conservatives. Farage said he will run for the anti-immigration ‘Reform UK Party’ in a eurosceptic seat in southeast England, and he will also return as party leader. The populist ex-member of the European Parliament, who has failed on seven previous attempts to be elected to the UK parliament, said he changed his mind after hearing from voters.

TIENANMEN ANNIVERSARY - Taiwan's new President Lai Ching-te said Tuesday that the memory of Beijing's deadly crackdown at Tiananmen Square "will not disappear in the torrent of history", in a post marking the event's 35th anniversary. Decades on, any mention in China of the protests is met with strict censorship. Lai's statement on Tienanmen comes weeks after his inauguration as president, and after China launched military drills around Taiwan, which it claims as part of its territory to be seized one day.

FRENCH OPEN -  Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas square off on Tuesday in a repeat of their French Open quarter-final from last year, while Iga Swiatek looks to stay on track for a third consecutive Roland Garros title. Swiatek motored into the last eight after blowing Anastasia Potapova aside 6-0, 6-0 in 40 minutes, the quickest match of the 23-year-old Pole's career.

Weather

Although the clouds prevail on Tuesday, the conditions will stay dry throughout the whole day. Less sunny than the start of the week, Tuesday is going to be a coexistence of clouds and sun.

Overall, there should still be 6 hours of sunshine throughout the day! The morning starts off cooler with 8-11°C, rising to truly summery temperatures of 20-21°C in the afternoon, and dropping slightly to 15°C by the time the evening falls.
