A new 815-metre-long cycle path opened between Cents station and Hamm on Monday, in honour of World Bicycle Day.
The new section of the PC27 cycle path runs alongside the railway tracks towards the Robert Schaffner (Irrgärtchen) roundabout, establishing a connection between Cents train station and Scheedhaff. Work on the new path began in October 2023 following years of discussions.
Once all sections are completed, the PC27 will "make it possible to link Luxembourg City to Stadtbredimus, or even the Moselle valley. The PC27 will pass through American and German military cemeteries, Sandweiler, Moutfort and Bous, and will ensure access to the PC1 and PC3 cycle paths", says the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works.

Non-profit ProVelo praised the new path, but said the missing sections persist. Gust Muller, who was president of Luxembourg's Bicycle Initiative before it became ProVelo, pointed out the link between Scheedhaff and the old station of Sandweiler is still not completed, as is the link between Polvermillen and Cents.
When finished, the route is expected to extend all the way to the Moselle in the east. However, neither the Minister of Transport, Yuriko Backes, nor the Minister of the Environment, Serge Wilmes, have committed to an exact timetable. Although both said they hoped work would proceed quickly, certain procedures must be followed, in addition to cooperation with municipal councils.

Currently, the national network of cycle paths in Luxembourg covers some 770 kilometres. It is planned to eventually cover 950 kilometres in total. Luxembourgers' passion for cycling remains unchallenged, evidenced by around 80,000 applications for bicycle subsidies submitted to date.
