MISSING MAN - A 34-year-old man from Tuntange who went missing while cycling near Ansembourg on Monday has been found dead. Police say they suspect no foul play was involved in the man's demise, according to preliminary investigations. The public prosecutor's office has ordered a full autopsy to determine the cause of death. According to reports, the search operation found the man's bicycle and other personal effects within the search area on Tuesday.
CARGOLUX FIREFIGHTING - Cargolux is diversifying, with a business unit called "Aquarius Aerial Firefighting", which will be officially presented for the first time this afternoon. Cargolux is acquiring specialised mobile aircrafts to help fight wildfires. The Aquarius fleet has already received its initial two aircraft out of a dozen in December. The project will cost Cargolux around €70 million.
ONLINE PETITIONS - As of today, 17 new petitions are online, which must receive at least 4,500 signatures by February 22, in order to be publicly debated in the Chamber. As usual, the demands of the petitioners are varied. For example, the CNS should fully reimburse a pair of glasses in the future. Begging should be allowed at all times and everywhere. If you park illegally in a parking place reserved for handicapped drivers, fines should go up. Luxembourgers living abroad should be given the opportunity to stand as candidates in parliamentary elections. Another petition is demanding affordable taxi prices. MISSING WOMAN - Volunteers have launched a search party for 85-year-old Eliza Annie Buckland-Anderson, who has been missing since Monday. Prior search efforts for the senior resident, who is in need of medical assistance, have remained futile.
EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS - And four exceptional students from St. George’s have emerged as global academic frontrunners, securing top marks internationally, across Europe, and within the borders of Luxembourg. There was intense competition among thousands of peers across 700 schools in 80 countries.
World
RED SEA - The US and the UK have carried out bombing raids on Houthi rebel positions in Yemen in retaliation for attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea. US President Biden said the US-led coalition would not tolerate attacks on its personnel or allow anyone to imperil freedom of navigation. The Iran-backed militia warned of reprisals if it came under fire. The Houthis have said they would be targeting ships in support of Hamas in its fight against Israel.
Saudi Arabia says it is following the strikes in Yemen with great concern and called for self-restraint.
FRANCE RESHUFFLE - French President Emmanuel Macron has replaced his foreign minister but maintained other key figures in their posts. The cabinet reshuffle followed the appointment of 34-year-old Gabriel Attal as prime minister, a move which Macron hopes will give his presidency new momentum. Stephane Sejourne has been named foreign minister, other key ministers including Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire kept their posts. In a surprise appointment Rachida Dati, a justice minister under the former presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy and member of the right-wing opposition Republicans party, has been named culture minister.

FOOTBALL - The short winter break in the German Bundesliga is over. Tonight, it’s the 17th matchday with a match between Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim. In France, League 1 also returns from ther winter break. Tonight Marseille meets Strasbourg.
Staying with football, Jadon Sancho has rejoined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season, less than three years after Manchester United paid 85 million euros for the England winger. Sancho had been frozen out at United for most of the season after becoming involved in a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag.
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the imminent signing of England defender Eric Dier from Tottenham. Dier, whose contract with Tottenham was set to expire in the summer, arrives for a reported fee of four million euros.
FIGURE SKATING - Loena Hendrickx has eased into the lead at the European Figure Skating Championships. The Belgian was the favourite for gold 12 months ago but had to settle for second place after twice falling in the free skate section. However, on Thursday, the 24-year-old world championship bronze medallist grabbed the initiative with a score of 74.66 points.
And Italy's Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise created a major surprise by clinching pairs gold at the European Figure Skating Championships performing to music from "Cats". They totalled 199.19 points thanks to a flawless performance in the free section.
