The party took place in the Abreschviller forest, which is located in Moselle, eastern France, not far from the border with Germany.

Anne Lecard, sub-prefect of Sarrebourg and local state representative, told AFP on Sunday that “the event has not been declared” and that “the gendarmerie and the National Forestry Office have been at the scene since yesterday”.

She further added that the location chosen for the rave “is far from the town centre, it’s in the middle of the forest, there’s no significant neighbourhood disturbance”.

Lecard also mentioned a “significant” gendarmerie deployment, though not giving further details on the exact number of mobilised agents. According to first estimates, 200 vehicles were on site and about 400 participants are thought to have attended the rave.

“An evacuation was planned for this morning, it is being carried out as the situation develops, the difficulty is that there are still people who are not fit to drive and leave,” concluded Lecard.
