The doses were transported by Cargolux, stopping over in Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku. Originally scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on Wednesday, 1 September, slight delays meant the plane could not depart Baku until 11pm on Wednesday, Taiwan News reports.
The plane was greeted by health minister Chen Shih-chung, among others, who held up a sign reading “Thank you”.
A second batch of approximately 900,000 doses is expected to arrive soon.
The country plans to begin administering the vaccines as of mid-September. The priority group will be students between the ages of 12 and 17. Registrations for adults between 18-22 years will also open.
