Traffic cameras will sprout like mushrooms in Wallonia in the months to come, in an attempt to reduce excessive speeding.

Our colleagues at 5 Minutes have found some news that will be of interest to cross-border workers, and holiday makers.

According to Sudinfo, no less than 167 traffic cameras will be installed on Belgian roads, specifically Wallonia, by the end of 2019. 436 new radar cameras in total will have been installed by 2020 as part of an initiative which began in 2018.

Benoît Godart, representative of the Institut Vias, said the last study in Flanders demonstrated that automatic radar cameras reduced serious accidents by 20-30%, while staggered or stretch cameras reduced them by 50%.

The new speed cameras will be placed around targeted areas where traffic is important, and the speed unsuitable, as well as on main transit routers such as the N25 around Brussels, which joins the E411... and Luxembourg.
