Two projects were selected by the Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg (FJSL) to take part in the prestigious event, reflecting the growing strength and creativity of science education in the Grand Duchy.

A particular highlight was the AURA bracelet, developed by students Shaheen Aljourdi, Rodrigo Von Mayer Goulart, and Yigit Günes, which earned a bronze medal. The wearable technology project had already impressed juries earlier this year, winning an award at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.

Yigit, who travelled to Mexico to present the project, described the experience as “a fever dream”, adding:

“I felt like an absolute superstar being here in Mexico and making bonds that will stick with me forever. Every smile, every compliment, every conversation means so much to me, and makes me realise that this is what I love doing.”

The second Luxembourgish participant, Petra Straga, showcased her molecular biology research titled ‘IDH1 Wild-type vs IDH1 R314C Enzymatic Activity’. She said travelling to North America for the first time as one of Luxembourg’s representatives was “a wonderful experience” filled with cultural exchanges, scientific discovery and “lots of spicy candy”.

Throughout the fair, both students engaged with a global community of young scientists, building connections that extend beyond the laboratory. The FJSL also supported international exchange by awarding two overseas competitors a prize to take part in the Luxembourg International Science Expo (LISE) in 2026.

FJSL Director Sousana Eang praised the achievements of the delegation and the value of the event:

“Beyond the competition, the trip offered an invaluable opportunity to broaden horizons, foster new friendships, and strengthen the spirit of scientific exchange.” The Foundation expressed its appreciation to the organisers of ExpoCiencias for their hospitality and pledged continued support for youth innovation. Attention now turns to LISE 2026, where bright minds from Luxembourg and beyond will once again come together in the name of science.
