On April 12th, Marko Anyfandakis, one of the co-founders of TERRA, appeared on The Home Stretch on RTL Today Radio. During his interview with Melissa Dalton, he discussed TERRA’s approach to growing greens in a way that aligns with nature.
Luxembourg currently imports 97% of its vegetables, which TERRA aims to change by making growing fruits and vegetables a financially viable business for farmers who may otherwise choose to produce milk, meat, or corn, abandoning the family business due to financial incentives.
TERRA’s solution is a subscription model, where each member gets their share of the weekly harvest. That way, the consumers and the producers are in direct contact and there is no retail point between them. Should there however, be leftovers from the harvest, TERRA will sell them to local restaurants or donate them to “Vollekskichen,” a soup kitchen in Bonnevoie.
Furthermore, they aim to operate on the principles of regenerative agriculture, prioritizing the restoration of soil health and the conservation of natural resources.
Another meaningful pillar for TERRA is their educational side. They offer a lot of workshops, namely on how to preserve and ferment fresh food and how to safely transport your goods.
Cooking classes are also available, led by chef Stephen, who shares his passion for cooking with seasonal produce not commonly found in supermarkets. TERRA also invites volunteers to their open-days where they can learn how to maintain the fields.
TERRA is located in Muhlenbach in Eicherfeld. Find out more about them on their website or by listening to the full interview on RTL Play.
