Celebrations by Scotland fans after the 4–2 win over Denmark, which sealed a place at the men’s World Cup, were so powerful that they registered as seismic activity and were detected by the UK’s national earthquake monitoring service.

Acording to the British Geological Survey (BGS), Scotland experienced a "very small earthquake" after a final minute strike from the half-way line by midfielder Kenny McClean launched a country into the air in joy as the Tartan Army's presence at next year's World Cup in USA, Canadan, and Mexico was secured.

The BGS station based at Dalmarnock – about 1.2 miles from Hampden Stadium – said the fans celebrating registered -1 on the richter scale.

Fans have since been joking authorities might consider keeping the Tartan Army away from California to avoid the risk of them triggering a major quake on the San Andreas fault if Scotland reach the World Cup group stage for the first time.
