According to the public prosecutor’s office, officers arrived at the scene shortly after the alert and launched an investigation to identify the suspects. Around 2pm, the four minors were apprehended as they attempted to enter a vehicle parked nearby. Evidence gathered on site led to “serious suspicions” against the group, according to the police.
The suspects, all of whom were known to the police and judicial authorities, have been previously registered under multiple identities in Luxembourg and abroad, the public prosecutor’s office shared, with one of the suspects having served time in Luxembourg’s penitentiary centre in Schrassig. As the minors have no fixed abode, their judicial and social monitoring is complicated, the prosecutor’s office continued.
Following their arrest, three of the minors were temporarily placed in Schrassig, while one was sent to a specialised centre for minors. The measures aim to prevent repeat offences, ensure the minors’ availability for the ongoing proceedings, and to provide appropriate social care, according the public prosecutor’s office.
The public prosecutor’s office reminded the public that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to assist law enforcement in responding quickly and effectively.
Separately, two minor pickpockets were arrested on Thursday. Both have been placed in Schrassig’s penitentiary centre, as the State Socio-Educational Centre (CEES) in Dreiborn is temporarily closed.
