The deadline was Wednesday, 4 March at 12pm. Therefore, the Miltgen–Engel duo will run at the next LSAP Congress on 14 March to take over the succession of co-presidents Francine Closener and Dan Biancalana. The new party leadership will represent the LSAP for the next three years and will also lead the Socialists in the upcoming election campaigns. The extended term must still be formally approved at the Congress in Hollerich.

She will give up her position as a parliamentary attaché in the LSAP faction, where Maxime Miltgen has worked until now. Since 2019, Maxime Miltgen has been the president of the ‘Femmes socialistes’.

In recent weeks, the LSAP had struggled to find a female candidate alongside Georges Engel. Candidates such as former Health Minister Paulette Lenert and Deputies Liz Braz and Claire Delcourt had declined. Besides Maxime Miltgen, Flore Schank from the north – currently an alderwoman in Feulen – had also shown interest.
