This is a shared project between RTL Today and our French sister site RTL Infos, where the section is called “La Vie de Famille.” It is perhaps no coincidence that, between the two teams, a near handful of us became parents in the last couple of years - nor indeed that some of our new team members have kids.
Whether diving into parenthood for the first time, or bringing your family with you to a new country, it’s an experience that brings with it a whole lot of new questions. Some of the practical, some rather bureaucratic, and others more along the lines of “oh holy heck everything is closed for three days, how will I survive?! What will we do?!”.
None of it is made easier if a lot of the information available is in a language you don’t speak, or a second, third, fourth language of which you don’t have complete mastery. Nor does it help if all of the information is spread around the web and hard to find.
So we decided to put together a one-stop shop, with all the information you may need. What do we have on offer, you ask?
On the practical side, we’ve tried to cover as much ground as we could: we started with birth and pregnancy, moving on the nursery jungle (and other options), and the school system including video profiles of the various public and private English options. But things don’t start and end with education - there’s a lot of other practical matters to understand, so we have whole sections on health, and knowing your rights.
But families are also about fun, right? And finding fun can be every bit as difficult as applying to nurseries, so we have guides for that too. Whether it’s finding activities, like kid-friendly hiking trails, or organised after-school programmes like the Scouts or Little Lions, we’ve got that covered too. We’ve also got a weekly and monthly guides to What’s On for families, helping you find things to do on a day off. And, of course, there’s our partnership with TravelMatKanner, which explores options in and around Luxembourg every week.
And finally, we wanted to hear about your experiences as parents, caregivers, and families in Luxembourg - and that’s exactly what The Expat Family brings to the table. These are articles in which you - our readers, and members of the community - get to share your stories, experiences, and advice.
But guess what? We’re not done. This is an active, living section, and we will add more content every week. Whether it’s something we stumble across, a new piece of information we hadn’t covered yet, or answering questions from you, there is much more to come.
So if you have a question, comment, concern, or something you would like to share - please do get in touch! You can do that by e-mailing contenttoday@rtl.lu (please put “family” in the e-mail title), or by filling out the below form.
