Police in Luxembourg City are investigating two street robberies that occurred in the Gare district over the weekend and on Monday evening.
In the first incident, a person was approached near the train station by a man who struck them on the neck and stole their necklace. The victim only realised the necklace was missing after the attack. While the suspect has since been identified, police have not yet managed to locate him.
A second, similar robbery took place at around 10.15pm on Monday in Rue du Fort Neipperg, where a man stopped a passerby, bumped into their legs, then put his arm around them. After striking the victim in the chest, the assailant snatched their necklace and fled. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
On Monday afternoon, officers were called to a perfume shop on Avenue de la Gare following two separate thefts in quick succession. Around 3.30pm, two men attempted to leave the shop with several bottles of perfume, but were detained by store security until police arrived. During a search, officers also found clothing that had previously been stolen from another shop.
Two hours later, another man was caught in the same perfume shop hiding two bottles of perfume in his bag as he tried to leave. He was also subsequently reported to police.
Police are investigating a number of burglaries reported on Monday. In Senningerberg, a resident returned from holiday to discover that burglars had broken into their house on Rue Munsterbusch through a basement window. The intruders forced open an empty safe in the cellar and made off with several bottles of high-value alcohol.
Later that evening, around 7pm, another break-in occurred at an apartment building on Rue Auguste Collart in Bettembourg. Here, one or more perpetrators entered the building via a basement window and searched several cellars, stealing a bicycle, a lamp, and clothing.
