Since the beginning of the outbreak and the resulting nationwide lockdown, a row of resignations from lawyers have reached the bar association.
Especially paralegals are considered to be at risk at the moment. Not every law firm or office is able to continue employment of their entire work force, and new arrivals are usually the first to be put on the spot.
Chairman Kremer recalled a case where a lawyer even had to resign completely from the bar and declare full unemployment to bypass the current situation. No longer considered an official practitioner, this person will need to pass the bar anew after the end the crisis, if he or she desires to return to the profession. “Those people will start at zero”, Kremer explained.
The bar is thus channeling its efforts to gain the status of partial unemployment for the sector, with little success at this point.
