The International Bazar of Luxembourg is taking place this weekend at LuxExpo and RTL Today Radio got an insight into the mighty work undertaken by a crew of big-hearted volunteers.
Speaking on The Sam Steen Show one such volunteer is Alexandre Sakorafas who works at PWC Luxembourg as Senior Business Analyst.
Marking his third year volunteering at the bazar, Alexandre told Sam that community engagement is very much promoted by the company and this is evident through its corporate volunteering programme ‘Time to Engage’.
The initiative allows PWC employees across the company to devote 40 hours a year to help people in a voluntary capacity. An impressive 1,000 hours of volunteering have been clocked up to date in 2024.
It promotes both general and skills-based volunteering, where employees can apply a wide range of specialist know-how, Alexandre explained.
“We started with the bazar three years ago and this year we will be more than 120 people coming and helping out. The atmosphere is really nice there. What I see is that the people are really proud of their country and they want you to discover their country. You can really see it on their faces that they are really proud of it.”
When asked to reveal his favourite stand, Alexandre paid tribute to his heritage and gave the nod to the Greek stand with its array of amazing food.
“But to be honest all the stands are very nice.”
Alexandre will be helping out at the Baltic States stand on Friday and Sunday so be sure to stop by and say hello!
The International Bazar will open tomorrow (Friday) with a ceremony attended by Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Princess Stéphanie, and it will run from 6-10pm. On Saturday the hours are 11am-7pm and Sunday from 11am-6pm.
