From 28 AugustUpcoming tunnel maintenance and cleaning to temporarily disrupt traffic

RTL Today
Motorists traversing tunnels for their daily commutes should brace for further intermittent disruptions in the weeks ahead.

Ongoing camera replacement work within the Gousselerbierg tunnel has necessitated bidirectional traffic routing through a single tunnel. This change prompts a mandatory speed reduction to 50 km/h. The Gousselerbierg tunnel’s camera refurbishment is slated for completion by 18 September. Beyond the tunnel’s exit, the speed limit persists at 50 km/h until reaching the entrance of the Grouft tunnel, where speeds may return to 90 km/h.

Similarly, those travelling north from Luxembourg City will encounter a reduction in speed to 50 km/h upon crossing the bridge in Lorentzweiler.

Motorists will therefore need a lot of patience along the A7 for the next two months. However, this is not the end of the story, as various tunnels across the country are slated for maintenance and cleaning operations as of 28 August.

Among the affected tunnels are – once again – the Gousselerbierg and Grouft tunnels. Notably, the Gousselerbierg tunnel is scheduled for nighttime closure from 24 October to 26 for cleaning activities.

The first tunnel to be affected by these works is the Markusberg tunnel, scheduled for maintenance works between 28 August and 1 September. Throughout this period, bidirectional traffic will be routed through a single tunnel, both during the day and at night.

Subsequent maintenance operations are planned for the Pétange, Biff, Saint-Esprit, Pénétrante Sud, Cents, and Serra tunnels, among others.
