The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) have criticised a draft bill on the valorisation of nurses, arguing that it neither provides the necessary legal protection nor offers the expected professional perspectives.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the unions responded to the bill, which was tabled in March by Health Minister Martine Deprez. While the legislation is intended to make the nursing profession more attractive and to enhance its status, the OGBL and LCGB claim that it falls short of an ambitious reform. Instead, they say, the bill largely restructures and rewords existing provisions.
The unions also criticised the draft for failing to establish a framework that would allow nurses to operate more autonomously. Despite nurses being a central pillar of Luxembourg's healthcare system, the proposed bill does not grant them the needed legal protection nor the professional prospects they expect, the unions argued.
