According to Statec’s latest report, the number of jobseekers has risen by 1,852 people compared to the same period last year.
However, the unemployment rate has remained stable at 5.2%, unchanged from June 2023.
The number of first-time registrants has risen by 298 people, or 13.2%, compared to July last year, as 2,549 residents registered with ADEM for the first time last month. The new registrations included 86 Ukrainian refugees benefiting from temporary protection in Luxembourg.
The number of resident job seekers benefiting from full unemployment benefit increased by 1,483 people or 21.1% over one year, to stand at 8,515.
As was the case last month, ADEM has seen a significant increase in qualified jobseekers (university graduates) as well as young people aged under 30.
According to the report, unemployment is rising in the fields of secretarial work, food production and catering, accounting and management, and construction.
Job offers in other fields are becoming scarcer in Luxembourg, as employers registered just 3,289 vacancies in the month of July - a 17% drop compared to July 2022.
The reduction in job vacancies affects all sectors, but in particular accommodation and catering, IT and communications, finance and administrative or support services. The latter, which includes a large proportion of temporary agencies active within the construction industry, has particularly been impacted by cuts recently.
