Two new PET scans were inaugurated at the hospital centre in Luxembourg City this week, in the presence of health minister Martine Deprez. The new machines are part of the latest “Omni Legend” generation and have been added to the national PET centre at the CHL.
The scanners have been 100% operational since mid-October and have already contributed to a significant reduction in patient wait times, dropping the wait from a month to two to three days. Each machine can accommodate a maximum capacity of 20–35 patients per day, allowing the hospital to scan up to 70 people per day.
The old machine was prone to breaking down and most recently was out of order in early October. In mid-October the hospital sought a replacement scanner on loan. The old PET scanner had broken down twice as much this year as it did in 2022, and four times as much as it broke down in 2020.
