The situation is said to be especially tense at the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch where two floors are now reserved for Covid-19 patients.

In order to decide whether further measures are required, the Robert Schuman Hospitals are suggesting carrying out an assessment of the situation on Sunday. In an interview on Radio 100,7 on Thursday, Minister of Health Paulette Lenert also announced that the start of phase 4 in the hospitals was “imminent”.

The Kirchberg hospital is on call this weekend, which, according to spokesman Marc Glesener, represents a key moment in regard to whether or not hospitals would need to shut down additional treatment offers. However, contrary to the situation in spring, those involved are doing everything they can to maintain outpatient treatment in any scenario.

A peak in hospital admissions is expected in the course of next week. The Robert Schuman Hospitals have already been asked to take in two Covid-19 patients from another Luxembourg hospital.

Currently, it is the CHEM (Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch) that seems to be the hardest hit by the pandemic. Two floors are already reserved for Covid-19 patients, while those in charge of the hospital are trying to set up a third floor for new hospitalisations.
