On Friday, the municipality of Luxembourg City welcomed a special delegation from the City of Trier, led by its Mayor, Mr Wolfram Leibe. The visit, which aimed at fortifying ties between the two cities, was graced by key representatives from the Grand Duchy’s capital.
Among them were Mayor Lydie Polfer, Maurice Bauer, alderman responsible for tourism, Director Antje Voss, and Mr Nico Margue, Vice-President of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office.
Highlighting the robust relationship between Trier and Luxembourg City, Maurice Bauer spoke highly of the seamless collaboration the two towns have enjoyed, especially in the domains of tourism and culture. Alongside Metz and Saarbrücken, both cities are esteemed members of the QuattroPole network, emphasising their commitment to fostering shared regional interests.
The sunny day proved perfect for the delegation to embark on the Wenzel Circular Walk. This tour, curated by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, traces the historic footsteps of Wenceslas II, Duke of Luxembourg from 1383 to 1419. Accompanied by a guide, the visitors thus journeyed through Luxembourg City’s ancient quarters and marvelled at the well-preserved fortifications, a testament to the city’s rich history and part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1994.
The visit underscored the thriving bond between the two towns, and with initiatives like this, Trier and Luxembourg City continue to pave the way for enhanced tourism and cultural exchanges in the future.
