The concept, which was launched three years ago, is a collaboration between the "Victims of Traffic Accidents" association and the Ministry of Mobility. In order to reduce traffic accidents, part of the CR132 will thus be improved in terms of road safety.
In addition to moving tress and the installation of crash barriers, the maximum speed will also be reduced.
Even though the total number of road deaths caused by trees has constantly decreased over the past years, three people still died in these types of accidents in 2020 – compared to eight in 2019.
Minister for Mobility François Bausch stated that crash barriers must be installed in the most dangerous places, provided that there is enough space to do so. So far, such barriers have already been installed in front of trees on around 20 kilometres of road. In addition, 800 trees have been completely removed across Luxembourg's roads over the past years.
The works on the CR132 are expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
