Work on the new tram connections resumed on Monday 20 April, with 80 workers participating in the efforts to complete the infrastructure between Kirchberg and the central train station. Next week, staff numbers are expected to increase to 140-180.
Despite the cornavirus-induced delay, Luxtram is optimistic that the schedule can be adjusted accordingly. President Frank Vansteenkiste said it was still feasible to meet their December deadline, as they would take advantage of the limited traffic in order to make up the time lost to quarantine.
Over the next three weeks Luxtram will install rails on Boulevard Royal, before continuing construction in the direction of Place de Paris.
Officials are reportedly also discussing the possibility of having a faster tram from Luxembourg City to Esch.
