Kartheiser submitted his question to Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch in the context of a number of accidents in neighbouring countries, most notably the tragic incident where a man pushed a woman and her child off the platform at Frankfurt station, killing the child.
Frankfurt: Boy, 8, dies after being pushed in front of German trainIn his question, Kartheiser used the example of glass barriers used on different underground networks, which are key in both preventing accidents and suicide attempts. The minister's response was that such prevention methods are unfeasible in the Grand Duchy.
Bausch explained that such barriers are only possible where the same rolling stock is used. Different trains with different dimensions travel through Luxembourg, making the platforms unsuitable for safety barriers.
Bausch above all highlighted that it would be illogical to introduce such barriers given the recent introduction of new trains and their service life.
