The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) are calling affected employees of Liberty Steel to a gathering in front of the Ministry of the Economy, in Luxembourg City, at 8.30am on Tuesday.
Since the bankruptcy of the steel plant in Dudelange was announced, around 150 employees are still unsure of how the situation will proceed. This is despite the fact that a buyer has been identified: Turkish company Tosyali.
The unions would like the Ministry of the Economy to become more involved so that the plant can quickly be taken over. They claim the workers need support during the transition phase, and they also want assurances that the industrial operation and jobs in Dudelange will be preserved.
