
Three ambulances from the capital were called to the scene, accompanied by Niederanven firefighters. It was later established that the driver who caused the accident was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The driver was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, but began displaying aggressive behaviour and injured a security guard at the emergency department. As a result, police placed the man in a cell to sober up as he was considered a danger to himself and others. He also had his licence withdrawn.
It was a busy evening for Luxembourg City emergency crews, as just minutes before the crash, fire services and two ambulances were despatched to Rue Englebert Neveu in Hamm after a mattress caught fire. One person was injured.
In Dudelange, the roof of a house on Rue des Champs caught fire, necessitating assistance from local fire fighters, supported by teams from Bettembourg and Kayl. The fire caused material damage.
Earlier in the evening, a man was reported for displaying erratic behaviour on Avenue Emile Reuter in the capital at 7.40pm. He was said to be zigzagging across the road in the direct path of cars, shouting at motorists and swinging his belt around in a threatening manner. Police found the man laying in the road at the junction between Avenue Emile Reuter and Boulevard Joseph II, and took him to a cell in order to sober up as he was visibly intoxicated.
