Diesel prices in Luxembourg are approaching record territory once again, with another sharp increase due to take effect on Saturday.

On 3 September 2026, the price of diesel surged by 15.9 cents, pushing it above the symbolic €2-per-litre mark for the second time this year, to €2.024. The first time it crossed that threshold was in the spring, when diesel cost €2.006 per litre on 20 March.

Diesel has only rarely exceeded €2 in Luxembourg. Before this year, the last comparable prices were seen at the beginning of the war in Ukraine more than four and a half years ago. On 10 March 2022, a litre cost €2.112.

On Saturday, 12 September, diesel will reach a new high for the year. The price will rise by 9.9 cents overnight from Friday to Saturday, reaching €2.123 per litre, according to the latest maximum fuel prices published by the Ministry of the Economy on Friday evening.

Historically, this will be the second-highest diesel price ever recorded in Luxembourg. The record was set on 9 April 2026, when diesel reached €2.186 per litre. Saturday's price will therefore be just over six cents below the all-time high.

The increase comes as renewed hostilities involving the United States and Iran continue to push up oil prices, which climbed back above the symbolic threshold of $100 a barrel this week.

Diesel drivers may therefore want to fill up before the new prices take effect. From Saturday, a 50-litre tank of diesel will cost €106.15, making it by far the most expensive fuel currently sold at Luxembourg filling stations.

Petrol prices, by contrast, will fall on Saturday morning.

SP95 will drop by 4.7 cents to €1.793 per litre, while SP98 will fall by 4.9 cents to €1.981 per litre.
